How to play

  1. Type any five-letter word and press Enter.
  2. Green means the letter is in the word and in the right spot.
  3. Yellow means the letter is in the word but in another spot.
  4. Grey means the letter is not in the word at all.
  5. Use the clues to find the word in six guesses or fewer. A new daily word arrives at midnight, and Practice gives you as many extra rounds as you like.

FAQ

Is Ninja Words free?

Yes. Ninja Words is completely free with no sign-up and no download. It runs in your browser on phones, tablets and computers.

When is there a new word?

Every day at midnight in your own time zone. Everyone playing in the same language gets the same daily word, so you can compare results with friends.

Can I play more than once a day?

Yes. Switch to Practice to play unlimited extra rounds with random words. Practice has its own statistics, so your daily streak is safe.

What is hard mode?

In hard mode every green letter must stay in its place and every yellow letter must be used in your next guesses. It stops you from playing “throw-away” words.

How do I share my result?

When you finish, press Share. It copies a grid of coloured squares without the letters, so you can post it without spoiling the word.

Is it the same as Wordle?

It is a similar five-letter guessing game, but Ninja Words is an independent game with its own word lists, practice mode and 10 languages. It is not affiliated with Wordle or The New York Times.
