Fruit Jungle is inspired by The Primitive, the 2008 Flash action game where an explorer lost in the jungle fights his way through a hostile tribe with guns, but it is made for the whole family: there are no weapons and no people to fight. Your explorer throws fruit at cheeky jungle critters until they are full and happy, and picks up fruit from the ground instead of ammunition. It has its own art, music, levels and features. Fruit Jungle is an independent game and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the makers of The Primitive.

Walk around the jungle clearing and throw fruit at the critters that come out of the bushes. Every hit fills a critter's tummy; when it is full, it says "yum", drops a gem and turns into a butterfly. Make every critter on the level happy to win. Bumps and bubbles cost hearts, so keep moving.

On a computer, walk with WASD or the arrow keys, aim with the mouse and click (or hold) to throw. Press Space or J to throw at the nearest critter, 1 to 5 or the mouse wheel to choose a fruit, and P to pause. On a phone or tablet, drag on the left side of the screen to walk, and drag on the right side to throw in that direction; a quick tap throws at the nearest critter.

Berries are quick and never run out. Bananas fly out and come back like a boomerang, through every critter in their way. Coconuts are heavy and push critters back. Watermelons are lobbed over bushes and splash every critter where they land. Pineapples burst into five chunks. You pick up bananas, coconuts, watermelons and pineapples from the ground: they appear around the clearing and full critters sometimes drop them. When you pick up a stronger fruit you start throwing it automatically, and you go back to berries when it runs out; you can turn this off in Settings.

You turn into a smiling flower! The critters back off, and after a moment you bloom back with full hearts. You can bloom back twice on each level; the third time the level is over and you can try again. Winning a level without turning into a flower gives three stars.

Monkeys are quick, warthogs charge in a straight line, parrots fly over the bushes, frogs hop and blow bubbles, and crabs have a shell that shrugs off berries. Each world ends with a big hungry boss: the Grumpy Gorilla, the Hungry Hippo, the Snappy Croc and the Lion King. Fill up the boss, pick up the key it drops and open the cage to rescue a baby animal.

The campaign has 24 levels in four worlds: the Green Jungle, River Bend, Bamboo Hills and the Temple Ruins, with a boss and a baby animal to rescue at the end of each world. After that, Endless and the Daily picnic keep the fun going.

Every happy critter drops gems, and you get bonus gems for stars. Spend them in the shop on six upgrades with three levels each: Strong Arm (fruit power), Quick Hands (throw faster), Big Basket (carry more fruit), Brave Heart (more hearts), Speedy Boots and the Fruit Magnet.

Both. It is easy to start and gets tricky later, with combos, bosses and Endless waves for older players. Nobody gets hurt: critters are fed, not fought, and full critters turn into butterflies. There is no chat, no names, no leaderboard and no links inside the game, and no ads in the play area. Progress is stored only in your browser. Ads appear only around the game, never in the play area.
