Typing Quest: a typing adventure game to play online free

Typing Quest is a free typing adventure in a cozy fantasy kingdom. Slimes, grumpy mushrooms, bats, beetles and imps walk towards your hero, and every word you type lands a strike. Travel through 5 lands and 30 stages on a story map, beat a boss at the end of each land, from King Slime to the Dragon, follow a winding journey map to the Dragon's castle, and unlock 7 warriors, from the Knight to the Paladin, as your coins pile up. The lands follow the touch typing order: the first uses only the home row, and each new land adds keys, so the adventure is also a typing course. Free leaderboards for the fastest boss fights, 90 stars and 25 badges. It works on computers and on phones.

How to play Typing Quest

  1. Open the quest map and start with stage 1-1 in Meadow Vale.
  2. Monsters walk towards your hero, each carrying a word.
  3. Type a monster's word to strike it; the first letter picks the closest monster with that letter.
  4. Do not let monsters reach your hero: each one costs a heart, and with no hearts left the stage is lost.
  5. Defeat every monster to clear the stage and earn up to three stars and coins.
  6. Beat the boss at the end of each land, follow the journey map to the Dragon's castle and unlock new warriors with your coins.

Small monsters carry short words; big ones, from the third stage of each land on, carry long words or whole phrases and walk more slowly. Flying monsters such as bats and imps bob up and down, but they are typed just the same. Press Backspace to let go of a monster and pick another one.

🐉 5. Dragon PeakAll keys, longer wordsImps, skulls, ember sprites and dark knightsThe Dragon

Every land looks different from stage to stage: a misty morning, a bright day, golden hour, rain, fog or falling sand, and a starry night before the boss, with windmills, cottages, crystals, pyramids and volcanoes along the way. Each stage unlocks the next, and beating a boss opens the next land. Grown-ups and older players can unlock every stage in Settings.

Boss fights

The sixth stage of every land is a boss. The boss stands at the end of the path with a word above its head: type it, then the next one, until its health bar is empty. Meanwhile its minions keep walking towards you, so switch between the boss and the minions. King Slime needs 6 words, the Old Treant 7, the Crystal Golem 8, the Sand Worm 9 and the Dragon 10.

Stars and coins

A cleared stage earns one star, two if you lost at most one heart and three if you lost none with 95% accuracy or better. Every monster drops coins (three for a big one), and every cleared stage adds a bonus, bigger for later lands and bosses.

The journey map

Tap the stage button to open the journey map: a winding road climbs from the village in Meadow Vale through the woods, caves and dunes to the Dragon's castle on Dragon Peak. Every stop shows its stars, a lock until you reach it and a crown for each boss; your warrior waits at the next stop. Tap a stop to play it, or a land name to read its story again.

Warriors and the shop

The coins you collect over the whole quest unlock seven warriors: the Knight (from the start), the Archer (40 coins), the Wizard (120), the Ninja (250), the Viking (400), the Samurai (600) and the Paladin (850). Each one has a different outfit and strike, and spending coins never locks them again. You can also spend coins in the shop on six hats (wizard hat, flower crown, pirate hat, viking helmet, top hat and golden crown) and four pets that float beside your hero (kitten, owlet, fox cub and baby dragon). They are only for fun: they never make the game easier or harder.

Leaderboards

Every boss has a free leaderboard for the fastest win, for today, this week and all time. Boss times count when the monster speed is Normal or Fast. Open the podium button to see them; you only choose a nickname if you want to join.

Badges

There are 25 badges for beating each boss, clearing every stage, collecting stars and coins, buying hats and pets, defeating hundreds of monsters, flawless and fast stages and more. Open the medal button in the game to see your progress.

Tips

  1. Closest first. Your first letter picks the closest monster with that letter; deal with it before the others.
  2. Fingers home. Rest your fingers on A S D F and J K L ; and come back there after every key.
  3. Look at the screen. The on-screen keyboard and the Typing Dojo help you learn where the keys are.
  4. Slow down for stars. Accuracy gives the third star; a steady rhythm beats rushing.
  5. Keep practising. Learn every key in the Typing Dojo, measure your speed in the Typing Speed Test, and try Penguin Trek and Word Tower.

Frequently asked questions

Is Typing Quest free?

Yes. Typing Quest is completely free, with no sign-up, no download and no in-app purchases. Coins are earned only by playing; they unlock new warriors and buy cosmetic hats and pets. It runs in your browser, and your progress is saved on your device.

How do I play Typing Quest?

Monsters walk towards your hero, and every monster carries a word. Type the word to strike it: the first letter picks the closest monster with that letter, and each correct letter turns gold. A monster that reaches your hero costs one of your three hearts. Defeat every monster to clear the stage.

How does Typing Quest teach typing?

The lands follow the same order as our Typing Dojo course. Meadow Vale uses only the home-row keys A S D F G H J K L, the Whispering Woods add E I R U, the Crystal Caves complete the top row, and from the Sunny Dunes on every key is used. You learn new keys one land at a time.

How many lands and stages are there?

Five lands with six stages each, 30 in all: Meadow Vale, the Whispering Woods, the Crystal Caves, the Sunny Dunes and Dragon Peak. The sixth stage of every land is a boss fight, and a short story card opens and closes every land.

How do boss fights work?

The boss waits at the end of the path with a word above its head. Type the words one after another to wear down its health bar, while its minions keep walking towards you. King Slime needs six words and the Dragon needs ten.

How do stars work?

One star for clearing a stage, two if you lost at most one heart, and three if you lost no heart with at least 95% accuracy. There are 90 stars to collect.

How do I unlock new warriors?

Collect coins. Seven warriors join your quest as your lifetime coin total grows: the Knight from the start, the Archer at 40 coins, the Wizard at 120, the Ninja at 250, the Viking at 400, the Samurai at 600 and the Paladin at 850. Spending coins in the shop never locks a warrior again. Each warrior has its own look and its own strike, from arrows to fireballs, and you choose one in the Warriors tab of the shop.

What can I buy with coins?

Every monster drops coins, and every cleared stage adds a bonus. Spend them in the shop on six hats, from a wizard hat to a golden crown, and four pets that follow your hero: a kitten, an owlet, a fox cub and a baby dragon. They are just for fun and do not change the game.

Is there a leaderboard?

Yes. Each of the five bosses has a free leaderboard for the fastest win, for today, this week and all time. Boss times count on the Normal and Fast monster speeds. You only choose a nickname if you want to join.

Is Typing Quest good for kids?

Yes. The art is friendly, nothing is scary or violent (defeated monsters just puff away), and the Relaxed speed in Settings slows the monsters down for beginners. Grown-ups can also unlock every stage at once.

Can I play on a phone or tablet?

Yes. Typing Quest shows its own on-screen keyboard on phones and tablets, with the keys of the current land highlighted and the next letter lit up. It works in portrait and landscape.

What if a stage is too hard?

Choose the Relaxed monster speed in Settings, and keep your eyes on the screen rather than the keyboard. Replaying earlier stages for three stars is great practice, and the Typing Dojo lessons teach the same keys step by step.
