Typing Wings: a flying typing game to play online free
Typing Wings is a free typing game in the style of the classic one-button flyers, except that your whole keyboard is the button. Type the letters on the ribbon and every correct key makes your bird flap; type faster to climb and slower to sink to thread the gaps between trees, stone columns, icicles, neon towers and candy poles. Fly through 7 worlds, collect berries to unlock 8 birds from the Robin to the Phoenix, choose words, the home row or all letters, and chase high scores on free leaderboards and the Daily flight. It works on computers and on phones with a built-in keyboard.
How to play Typing Wings
- Choose a difficulty that matches your typing speed and the text you want to type: words, the home row or all letters.
- Type the first letter on the ribbon to take off.
- Every correct key makes your bird flap once. A wrong key does nothing, so the bird sinks.
- Type faster to climb and slower to sink, and fly through the gaps between the obstacles.
- Collect berries to unlock new birds; every 12 gates you reach a new world.
- Touching an obstacle or the ground ends the flight. Each gate you pass is one point.
Flying by typing rhythm
Gravity always pulls your bird down, and each correct key gives it one flap upwards. That means your typing speed is your altitude control: type at the speed of your difficulty and the bird flies level, speed up to climb towards a high gap, and slow down or pause for a moment to drop towards a low one. A wrong key gives no flap, so accuracy matters as much as speed. After a few flights you start reading the next gap and adjusting your rhythm without thinking, which is exactly the steady, even typing that makes people fast.
Difficulty and text
| Difficulty | Level flight at | Gaps and speed |
|---|---|---|
| 🐣 Easy | about 10 WPM | Slow falling, strong flaps, wide gaps, slow scrolling, short words |
| 🐦 Normal | about 25 WPM | Medium gaps and speed |
| 🦅 Hard | about 45 WPM | Narrow gaps, fast scrolling, bigger height changes |
The scrolling speeds up a little with every gate. You can type common words (the default and the text used for leaderboards), the home row only (A S D F G H J K L), which is ideal for learning to touch type, or all letters in random groups.
The seven worlds
| World | Gates | Obstacles |
|---|---|---|
| 🌳 Green Meadow | 0–11 | Trees with leafy crowns and hanging vines |
| 🏖️ Sunny Beach | 12–23 | Sandstone columns by the sea |
| 🌵 Canyon Sunset | 24–35 | Red rock towers with cacti |
| 🏔️ Snowy Peaks | 36–47 | Ice pillars with icicles |
| 🌃 Neon City | 48–59 | Glowing neon towers at night |
| 🍭 Candy Clouds | 60–71 | Striped candy poles with sweets on top |
| ✨ Starry Night | 72–83 | Glowing crystals under the stars |
After Starry Night the journey starts again in the meadow, faster than before.
The birds
Strawberries float in some of the gaps. Collect them to unlock new birds: the Robin is free, then the Canary (25 berries), Blue Jay (60), Parrot (100), Owl (150), Toucan (220), Flamingo (300) and the fiery Phoenix (400). Every bird flies the same way, so leaderboards stay fair.
Leaderboards and the Daily flight
Endless flights with the Words text have free leaderboards for Easy, Normal and Hard, each for today, this week and all time. The Daily flight uses Normal rules with the same gaps and words for everyone and has its own board. Open the podium button to see them; you only choose a nickname if you want to join.

Tips
- Find your cruising rhythm. Learn the typing speed that keeps your bird level, then speed up or slow down only a little.
- Look ahead. Watch the next gap, not just the bird, and start climbing or sinking early.
- Pause to drop. To reach a low gap, simply stop typing for a moment.
- Don't look down. The next key is shown next to your bird; learn touch typing in the Typing Dojo.
- Measure your speed. Take the Typing Speed Test and pick the difficulty that matches it. For more typing action, try Word Blaster.
Frequently asked questions
Is Typing Wings free?
Yes. Typing Wings is completely free, with no sign-up, no download and no in-app purchases. It runs in your browser on computers, tablets and phones, and your birds, berries, records and badges are saved on your device.
How do I play Typing Wings?
Type the letters shown on the ribbon at the top of the screen. Every correct key makes your bird flap once; a wrong key does nothing, so the bird sinks. Type faster to climb and slower to sink, and steer through the gaps between the obstacles. Touching an obstacle or the ground ends the flight.
Is it like Flappy Bird?
It is an endless flyer in the same spirit: gravity pulls your bird down and each flap lifts it, and you score one point per gap. The difference is that you flap by typing, so instead of tapping one button you practise every key on the keyboard, and your typing rhythm decides your height.
Which difficulty should I choose?
Pick the one that matches your typing speed. On Easy the bird falls slowly and flies level at only about 10 words per minute, so it is perfect for beginners; on Normal it needs about 25 and on Hard about 45, and Hard also has narrower gaps and faster scrolling. New players start on Easy. If your bird keeps sinking, choose an easier level; if it keeps hitting the top, choose a harder one.
What can I type?
Common English words (the default, and the text used for leaderboards), the home row only (A S D F G H J K L), which is perfect for beginners learning to touch type, or random groups of letters from the whole keyboard.
What are the worlds?
Every 12 gates you fly into a new world: Green Meadow, Sunny Beach, Canyon Sunset, Snowy Peaks, Neon City, Candy Clouds and Starry Night. Each has its own sky, landscape and obstacles, from trees and stone columns to icicles, neon towers, candy poles and glowing crystals.
How do I unlock new birds?
Collect the strawberries that float in some of the gaps. Berries are saved between flights, and you spend them in the bird menu to unlock the Canary, Blue Jay, Parrot, Owl, Toucan, Flamingo and finally the Phoenix. All birds fly exactly the same, so choose the one you like.
Is there a leaderboard?
Yes. Endless flights with the Words text have free leaderboards for Easy, Normal and Hard, and the Daily flight has its own board. Each shows today, this week and all time. You only choose a nickname if you want to join, and you can delete your scores at any time.
What is the Daily flight?
The Daily flight uses Normal rules with the same obstacles and the same words for everyone each day, so you can compare scores fairly and come back tomorrow for a new one.
Can I play on a phone or tablet?
Yes. On phones and tablets Typing Wings shows its own on-screen keyboard with a space bar, and the next key lights up. The game works in portrait and landscape.
Does Typing Wings help me type faster?
Yes. It rewards a steady, even rhythm and accuracy, which is exactly what fast typing needs, and it shows your words per minute after every flight. For lessons, try the Typing Dojo; to measure your speed, take the Typing Speed Test.
Do I need an account to keep my progress?
No. Everything is stored in your browser on this device. Leaderboards are optional and only need a nickname.
