Parking Jam: free car parking puzzle with 50 levels
Parking Jam is a colourful traffic puzzle you can play free in your browser. The car park is completely jammed, and your job is to get every car, taxi, police car, truck and bus out onto the road. Tap a car to drive it forward, drag it along its lane to slide it out of the way, and find the right order in which the cars leave without bumping into each other. Work through a campaign of 50 levels across five themed districts, take on a new Daily Journey of five lots every day, play endless Classic lots in four difficulties and collect 25 badges. It works on phones in portrait and landscape, on tablets and on computers, with nothing to install.
How to play Parking Jam
- Look at the parking lot: every vehicle is parked in a lane and can only leave the lot driving forward, the way its headlights point.
- Tap a vehicle to drive it forward. A vehicle whose lane is blocked has to wait until the cars ahead of it have left.
- Drag a vehicle forward or back along its lane to slide it into an empty space. Use this to make room when cars block each other in a loop. Slides are limited to the fewest the lot needs plus three, so plan them.
- If the lane to the edge of the lot is clear, the vehicle drives onto the road and leaves through an exit gate.
- If another car, a traffic cone or a fence is in the way, the vehicle bumps into it and rolls back. Every bump costs a star, and the third bump loses the lot, so look before you drive.
- Watch the clock: every lot has a time limit that starts with your first move. Clear the lot before it runs out.
- Find the right order and drive every vehicle out. Clear the lot without bumps and without hints for three stars.
The puzzle is all about order. A car facing a wall of other cars may be stuck now, but free in two moves once its neighbours have left. The trickiest ones are the decoys: cars with an empty space behind them that look free, but whose lane ahead is blocked. From level 5 on you will also meet loops: cars that block each other, so that no order of exits works until you slide one of them into an empty space. Every lot has a perfect solution in which each vehicle drives out on the first try, with no bumps at all. You can afford two mistakes; the third bump means the lot stays jammed and you start it again.
Controls
- Touch: tap a vehicle to drive it forward. Press and drag it along its lane to slide it forward or back; it stops at the next obstacle and snaps into a space when you let go. Flick it forward to send it out when its lane is clear.
- Mouse: click a vehicle to drive it forward, or drag it along its lane to slide it.
- Keyboard: the arrow keys pick a vehicle, Enter or Space drives it forward and Shift with an arrow key slides it one space. H shows a hint, R restarts the lot and N opens the next one.
- Phone held sideways: the buttons move to the sides and the lot turns to use the whole screen.
Game modes
Campaign: 50 levels in 5 districts
The campaign starts with a three-car tutorial and grows into big city lots with more than 20 vehicles. The difficulty rises a little with every level, and every ten levels you move to a new district with its own scenery and bigger, busier lots. Levels unlock one by one, and you can replay any of them to improve your stars. If you would rather explore, Settings has an option to unlock every level.
| District | Levels | Vehicles | Slides needed | What is new |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 🏡 Sunny Suburbs | 1–10 | 3–10 | 0–1 | Learn to tap, to find the order and (level 5) to slide; the first trucks; traffic cones from level 10 |
| 🏖️ Beach Boulevard | 11–20 | 10–12 | 1 | Bigger 6-wide lots; rope fences close parts of the lot from level 14 |
| ❄️ Snowy Mall | 21–30 | 12–17 | 1–2 | Snowbanks, more buses and the first 7×9 lots |
| 🌵 Desert Diner | 31–40 | 16–18 | 1–2 | Rock walls, more cones and long chains of blocked cars |
| 🌃 Neon Downtown | 41–50 | 17–23 | 1–2 | Night city with glowing headlights; 8×11 lots with up to 8 rounds of blocked cars |
Daily Journey: five lots a day
Each day brings a fresh journey of five lots, from a quick warm-up at stage 1 to a big jam at stage 5. Everybody plays the same lots on the same day, so you can share your stars without spoiling the solution. Complete the journey on consecutive days to keep your streak alive; streaks of 3, 7 and 30 days earn badges.
Classic: endless random lots
Classic mode creates a brand-new lot whenever you want one, in four difficulties:
| Difficulty | Lot size | Typical vehicles | Obstacles |
|---|---|---|---|
| 🚗 Easy | 5×6 to 6×7 | 8 to 11 | At most one cone, no fences |
| 🚙 Medium | 6×8 | 13 to 14 | Cones and short fences |
| 🚚 Hard | 7×9 and 7×10 | 18 to 20 | More cones, longer fences |
| 🚌 Expert | 8×10 and 8×11 | 24 to 27 | Lots of both |
Vehicles and obstacles
| On the lot | Size | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| 🚗 Car, 🚕 taxi, 🚓 police car, 🏎️ sports car | 2 spaces | The most common vehicles. Headlights show the front; red tail lights show the back. |
| 🚚 Truck, 🚌 bus, 🚐 van | 3 spaces | They drive like cars but block a longer stretch of lane, so they are often the key to a lot. |
| 🚧 Traffic cone | 1 space | Never moves. A car with a cone in front of it has to leave the other way. |
| 🌳 Fence, hedge or wall | Edge of the lot | Closes part of the lot's edge. Cars cannot leave through it, so lanes that end at a fence only work in the other direction. |
Stars and scoring
| Result | Stars |
|---|---|
| No bumps and no hints | ★★★ |
| One bump, or a hint used | ★★ |
| Two bumps | ★ |
| Three bumps, out of slides, or out of time with the lot still jammed | Lot lost: try again |
The bump counter at the top turns red when you have one bump left. The clock at the top counts down the time left for the lot and turns red in the last 10 seconds. Losing a lot costs nothing but time: tap Try again and the lot starts over with a clean counter. The campaign has 150 stars to collect. Your best time for every level and every difficulty is saved too, and quick chains of exits score combos.

Strategy: how to clear any lot without bumps
- Break loops with a slide. When nothing can leave, look for two cars in each other's way. Slide one of them back or forward into an empty space, just far enough to open the other's lane.
- Count your slides. You get the fewest slides the lot needs plus three. Before you slide, check that it really opens a lane; a slide that helps nobody is one fewer for later.
- Look for the free cars first. Any vehicle with an empty lane to the edge of the lot can leave right away. Driving it out never hurts: it only makes room.
- Watch the headlights, not the gaps. A car with empty space behind it is not free: only the lane in front of its headlights counts. These decoys cause most bumps.
- Follow the lanes to the edge. Before you tap, trace the lane all the way to the edge of the lot, including fences on that edge and cones in the middle.
- Work from the outside in. Cars along the edges of the lot usually have the shortest way out. Clearing them opens lanes for the cars in the middle.
- Free the big vehicles early. A truck or bus that leaves opens three spaces at once, which often unblocks several cars.
- Find the blocker of the blocker. If car A is stuck behind car B, ask what B needs. Working backwards through the chain shows you the right order.
- Use the edges of fences. When most of one side is fenced off, the open gaps become the only ways out on that side.
- Plan first, then drive fast. The clock only starts with your first move, so look over the lot before you touch anything. Once you see the order, keep the cars moving: a bump costs a star and a second or two.
Why every lot can be solved
In Parking Jam a tapped vehicle that cannot get out bumps the obstacle and rolls back to its own bay, a slide can always be slid back, and a vehicle leaving only ever makes room for others. So you can never paint yourself into a corner: if a lot can be cleared at all, it can be cleared from any position you reach. Our level builder checks every lot before you see it with a solver that tries every useful slide, step by step, and drives out every vehicle that can leave after each one. It also works out the smallest number of slides a lot needs. The first levels can be cleared just by finding the right order; from level 5 on, every campaign lot has at least one loop that needs a slide. To make the campaign rise smoothly, the level builder generates several candidate lots for every level, rates each one by the slides it needs, the rounds of blocked cars, the number of vehicles and how few are free at the start, and puts levels 3 to 50 in order of rating, so no level is easier than the one before.
A short history of parking puzzles
Parking puzzles belong to the family of sliding block puzzles, in which pieces can only slide along their own direction. The best-known ancestor is the 15 puzzle, which caused a worldwide craze in 1880. In the 1970s the Japanese puzzle designer Nob Yoshigahara created a traffic version in which cars and trucks slide in a grid to free one red car; it became famous as Rush Hour, sold in the United States from 1996 by ThinkFun (then called Binary Arts). Mobile games later turned the idea around: instead of freeing one car, you have to empty the whole car park. This version, written from scratch for Util.Ninja, adds sliding, cones, fences, five districts, a steadily rising difficulty curve and a daily journey, and it guarantees that every lot can be solved.
Puzzles like this are a pleasant way to practise planning and spatial reasoning: you have to picture lanes, predict what each move frees up and think several steps ahead, all in short sessions that fit a coffee break.
Frequently asked questions
Is Parking Jam free?
Yes. Parking Jam on Util.Ninja is completely free, with no sign-up, no download and no in-app purchases. It runs in your browser on phones, tablets and computers, and your progress is saved automatically on your device.
How do I play Parking Jam?
Drive every vehicle out of the jammed parking lot. Tap a car to drive it forward, the way its headlights point, or drag it along its lane to slide it into an empty space and make room. A vehicle that has a clear lane to the edge drives onto the road and leaves through an exit gate. If something is in the way, it bumps into it and rolls back to its bay. Three bumps and the lot stays jammed: you lose and try again.
Can a level become impossible?
No. A bumped car always rolls back to where it started, so no move can trap you. Every one of the 50 campaign levels, and every daily and classic lot, is checked by our solver before you play it, so a solution always exists. You lose a lot only by bumping three times, by running out of slides or by running out of time.
Is there a time limit?
Yes. Every lot has a clock that starts with your first move and counts down. If it reaches zero while vehicles are still parked, the lot is lost and you try again. The limit is generous at the start, about a minute for the three cars of level 1, and gets tighter as you progress: the time allowed for each vehicle falls from about 20 seconds in the first levels to about 6 seconds by level 50, so the last lots give you around two to two and a half minutes. The limit is worked out from the number of vehicles and the slides the lot needs, so it is always enough to clear the lot once you have found the order. The clock turns red in the last 10 seconds and pauses while a menu or dialog is open.
What happens after three bumps?
The third bump ends the lot: the drivers have had enough and the car park stays jammed. Tap Try again to restart the same lot from the beginning, with all vehicles back in place and the bump counter at zero. In Classic you can also skip to a new lot.
How do I get three stars?
Clear the lot without a single bump and without using a hint. One bump gives two stars and two bumps give one star. A hint limits you to two stars. The third bump loses the lot.
What is the Daily Journey?
Every day there are five new lots that get bigger and harder from stage 1 to stage 5. Everyone gets the same five lots on the same day, so you can compare stars with friends. Finish the journey on consecutive days to build a streak.
What is Classic mode?
Classic gives you endless random lots in four difficulties: Easy, Medium, Hard and Expert. Every lot is new, so you can keep playing as long as you like after finishing the campaign.
Can cars move backwards?
Yes, but only inside the lot. You can drag any vehicle forward or back along its own lane into empty spaces, to make room for others. Vehicles can leave the lot only forward, the way their headlights point, so a car whose lane ahead is blocked has to wait or be helped by sliding something out of its way.
How do I slide a car?
Press on a vehicle and drag it along its lane, forward or back. It follows your finger or mouse up to the next obstacle and snaps into the nearest space when you let go. A slide never counts as a bump, but slides are limited (see below). If you drag a car forward past the edge of the lot, or flick it forward, and its lane is clear, it drives out. On a keyboard, pick a car with the arrow keys and hold Shift with an arrow key to slide it one space.
How many slides can I use?
Each lot allows the smallest number of slides it needs plus three. The Slides counter at the top shows how many you have left and turns red at one. A lot that needs no slides allows three; a lot with one loop allows four. When the counter reaches zero you can still drive cars out, but you cannot slide any more, and if the lot can no longer be cleared without slides, it is lost and you try again.
What is a loop?
Sometimes two or more vehicles block each other: A cannot leave because B is in its lane, and B cannot leave because A is in its lane. No order of exits can solve that. The only way out is to slide one of them aside, into an empty space, so the other can pass. From level 5 on, many lots contain loops like this.
Do the levels get harder?
Yes, step by step. Every campaign level is chosen from many generated lots so that its difficulty rating is a little higher than the level before. The rating counts how many slides the lot needs, how many rounds of blocked cars there are, how many vehicles are on the lot and how few of them are free at the start. Level 1 has three cars; from level 5 on, lots also contain loops that need a slide, and level 50 has 23 vehicles in eight rounds of blocked cars plus a loop to break.
Do I need an account to keep my progress?
No. Stars, badges, streaks and the lot you are playing are stored in your browser's local storage on this device. Clearing your browser data, or playing in a private window, starts you from scratch.
Is there sound?
Yes: engines, horns and fanfares made in the browser with the Web Audio API. You can switch sound and phone vibration off in Settings.
